Happy New Year Everyone!

Yes, I know it is April but we are celebrating Khmai New Year this week. Here in Cambodia we get to celebrate New Year three times each year -- the calendar New Year, the Chinese/Vietnamese/Lunar New Year and the Cambodian/Thailand New Year.

Grieving, yet not as those without hope…

Your prayers are precious to us as you lift us up daily and respond diligently when we mention special requests. Thank you for your recent prayers for Mickey’s family. They have appreciated the overwhelming expressions of support and love for them during this very difficult time. When I last wrote the cause of death was suspected to be a heart attack. The autopsy confirmed that suspicion. He had been experiencing symptoms but did not make the trip to the doctor in time. Our family and others were able traveled to Phnom Penh safely for his memorial service. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to lift up his family as many trying days lay ahead. Pray also for the many villagers in their community who are not yet believers. Mickey’s wife and children are having opportunities to share about the hope they have even in the midst of grief. Some villagers have shared of dreams in which Mickey appears to them encouraging them to trust in the One True God, not the false gods that entrap and ensnare them. We pray that many will trust in Jesus Christ through this experience.

Visiting boat-to-boat

In February we had a great experience with a volunteer team from Nevada. We decided, through God’s leading, that it was time to try a different approach to medical clinics on the lake. Instead of conducting a large clinic site where hundreds of patients are routed through the medical stations and medicine is given, we chose to divide into several small teams and visit house-to-house, focusing on patients which our local contacts indicated had severe medical concerns. None of us knew how this would work out but the team was game to try. Wow, the Lord did “immeasurably more than all we [could] ask or imagine!” Many people who had never been seen by a doctor felt the loving touch of a Christian doctor, heard the gospel for the first time, and welcomed foreigners into their meager homes. It was life-changing for the villagers and for the volunteers! We’ll share another story from that week in a later newsletter.

Puppets and Basketball

Our most recent team of volunteers came from an International church in Singapore. This team had asked how they could help with our ministry. We requested puppet ministry training and basketball training. It was a great week as the young believers on the lake learned how to play basketball without tackling and how to operate puppets and conduct skits. We hope these young men will teach other young men basketball skills and witness to them in the process. We also plan to take the puppet ministry on the road, well, on the lake, to more remote villages and share the gospel. Our own volunteer ministry team ministering in other villages!

Easter Story

In our house church yesterday, the children were retelling the Easter story using the resurrection eggs. Emily, our 5 year old, chose the egg which had a leather strip in it to signify the beating which Jesus endured. This is what she said:

Emily:   “This is a wacker. They wacked Jesus with it, but he wacked them back.”

Me:       “He wacked them back?”

Emily:   “Yes.”

Me:       “How did he wack them back?” (I knew there must be some wheels turning in her head.)

Emily:   “He didn’t stay dead and he went to heaven.”

Me:       “Oh, so even though they hurt him, Jesus beat them in the end. So he was the winner?”

Emily:   “Yes.”

We’re all glad to be on the winning team! It was a fun morning.

We are truly excited about all that the Lord is doing and you are a big part of it. Thank you for your continued prayers for our family and for the “Lakers”.

Blessings to you all,

The Huynh Family

Hoang, Kandy, Caleb, Danielle, Kristen and Emily
